THE BIRMINGHAM SOUND-THE SOUL OF NEAL HEMPHILL VOL. 1
Posted on March 20th, 2007 by ekkoWe don’t post oldies too often here, but I’ll let you in on a little secret: I love old soul. Two of my favorite songs are “Oooh Child” by the 5 Stairsteps and “Be Thankful For What You’ve Got” by William DeVaughn. This album is a reissue collection of music recorded at the Sound of Birmingham and Hemphill Studios in Alabama, and it features some great soul gems by guys like The Blue Notes, Bill “Butterbean” Flippo, Chuck Strong, and many more. It’s a sweet blast from the past, perfect for a porch, lemonade, and a hot day.
