BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, 1/19/74

Posted on February 23rd, 2008 by ekko

I don’t usually post Bruce stuff here, but it’s not because I’m not a fan. It’s because so much Springsteen is easy to find. But I recently scored the “You Mean So Much To Me” boot CD, and I learned that it’s the first time he did, “Incident On 57th Street,” one of his best tales. It’s also phenomenal quality. I’m gonna also suggest you check out “Rosalita” (with a little taste of “Shotgun” and “High Heeled Sneakers” in it) and the especially long blues classic “Walking the Dog.”

Y’all know the drill: A few tastes, and a zip.

01 Does This Bus Stop At 82nd Street? (4:04)
02 Walkin’ The Dog (9:13)
03 Incident On 57th Street (7:44)
04 Kitty’s Back (9:53)
05 Thundercrack (11:51)
06 You Mean So Much To Me
07 Growin’ Up (3:01)
08 Blinded By The Light (10:59)
09 Let The Four Winds Blow (Start cut, 6:43)
10 Rosalita (8:53)

  1. Thanks for posting Bruce this time! And for the easy download. My first time to your site. I’ll check out your other postings.

  2. You are my freakin’ hero for posting this. It’s gonna be a good day.

  3. Awesome! Thanks!

  4. Thank you, thank you so much

  5. I am not a pro at finding Springsteen boots so I grab them when I can. Heather at http://fuelfriends.blogspot.com/ posted the Main Point show which was in May of 74. That has a breathtaking version of Incident and I have been searching for more live versions of this ever since. This is only the 2nd that I’ve found.

    Thanks so much.

  6. Hey

I’m a bit obsessed by early bruce springsteen and cant find any bootlegs ANYWHERE. Any ideas?

  7. This show actually took place on January 19th in Nashville, TN at a club called Muther’s Music Emporium. Bruce opened up a couple of nights for Freddie King who was booked for 6 nights. There was a CBS records convention in Nashville and the hope was that The Boss could impress the suits, but hardly any if at all came to see him at the 300 seat club. The shows were not well attended. The January 19th gig took place at the Kent State Student Union Center where Bruce opened for Black Oak Arkansas. The sound was said to be horrible and a large contingent of Jim Dandy fans didn’t care much for Springsteen. For whatever reason this boot has always been mislabeled.

  8. Duhhh, the show actually took place on January 29th in Nashville. Damn typos – once you hit submit you can’t take them back.

HOW CAN I GET IN ON THIS?

    • Email me
      for the specifics but, basically:
    • I listen to all submissions of entire albums, not songs or compilations.
    • With rare exceptions I will not review material protected by the RIAA. So Sony, BMG, etc., don't start sending me crap. I'm not interested.
    • I don't listen to streams.
    • I won't read online comic-books. I may read .pdfs. I will read all hardcopy submissions.
    • I will review only submissions that I can recommend. I'm not here to do negative reviews.
