VOYAGER ONE-“Afterhours in the Afterlife”

Indie prog rockers unite! If you’re into spacey, swirling, effects-driven jams, heavy on the keyboards (think: Mazzy Star), lighter-than-air vocals that still have a little bottom (think: Syd Barrett in his
prime), and obscure, cosmic lyrics (think: Yes), then http://www.myspace.com/voyagerone
Voyager One is for you. They may be from Seattle, but they’re as far from grunge as you can get. Every song is a precise, intricate, and well-produced atmospheric soundscape, slightly shoegazery and full of psychedelic detail. And they do it with just 5 dudes in the band!

This isn’t a kind of genre that it’s easy to excel in: For every really good album, like this one, there are at least a dozen dull ones. So for that, too, Voyager One deserves praise. This talented group has been on Loveless Records since 1999, and I’m kind of surprised I’m only just hearing about them now, on this, their fourth album.

  1. Thanks for the props and support. a touch of history – The band actually left loveless after their 2nd record monster zero (c2004). The band re-tooled. Went into the studio for a year to record & self-release their 3rd record Dissolver. (9/10 Under the Radar) but the record never really got heard by too may people (a great record btw) but it did get the band on tour with BRMC. So, after recording Afterhours in the Afterlife – we knew people had to hear this record! The heads of Loveless were such fans of the band and the label too had retooled and grown…so we decided to return in 2008. We’re three weeks into the release and things are going great! Thank you for spreading the word!

HOW CAN I GET IN ON THIS?

    • Email me
      for the specifics but, basically:
    • I listen to all submissions of entire albums, not songs or compilations.
    • With rare exceptions I will not review material protected by the RIAA. So Sony, BMG, etc., don't start sending me crap. I'm not interested.
    • I don't listen to streams.
    • I won't read online comic-books. I may read .pdfs. I will read all hardcopy submissions.
    • I will review only submissions that I can recommend. I'm not here to do negative reviews.
