I am so stoked to offer this: A giveaway of Stevie Nicks’ new “Live In Chicago” DVD and “The Soundstage Sessions” CD, both scheduled for release on March 31 (preorder here).

Other than Crissy Hynde, Stevie Nicks has the most distinctive female voice in rock and roll, and her catalog speaks for itself: Edge of 17, Landslide, Rhiannon, Gold Dust Woman, Stand Back, Dreams . . . They’re all here, along with covers of Dave Matthews’ “Crash Into Me” and Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.”  I haven’t heard it (yet), but I’m psyched to.

For New Yorkers who are free on 3/31 at 7pm, you can meet her in person at the Union Square Barnes & Noble Store.  For the rest of you, winning this prize is the closest you’ll get to her.  And here’s how: Drop a comment telling me your favorite Stevie lyric, and include your e-mail address (you MUST do this—I can’t always get it from the info embedded in your comment).  Winner will be chosen at random in exactly one week.  I will send the winner an e-mail asking for her/his address, so check your accounts in one week because if you don’t respond to me within 24 hours, I reserve the right to pick a new winner.

Here’s a few tunes to start you off . . .

  2. ‘…When it rains it pours
When there’s no one at the door
Yes he did send me flowers
Well that was a long time ago
    Sounded good on a
    Delicate white-ribbon card

    Just what I need…”

  5. Kool! Thanks for the chance…great blog. We are going to see Fleetwood Mac for the first time on the 20th of April!…..

From what I can tell I need to be here
You say someone’s looking for you, nothing is wrong

Well I can and I will go on
    When this battle is over
    I feel I will survive
In the battle of the dragon
    No one walks away
Oh, you wish it to the end…wish it to the end

  7. You can ride high atop your pony

    I know you won’t fall…

    ’cause the whole thing’s phoney.

You can fly swingin from your trapeze

    Scaring all the people…

    but you never scare me

    In the desert…

    And we are the guardians

No black clouds…just the faces of you

  9. Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
    But time makes you bolder
Even children get older and I’m getting older too

  10. Thanks for this opportunity! Here’s my email address: LCH3166@comcast.net.

And, here are my favorite Stevie lyrics:

    Fireflies
    - written by Stevie Nicks
    - appears on Fleetwood Mac – Live (1980)
    - released as a single; b-side: Over My Head (live) (U.S. February 1981)

    Lyrics

To be the last to leave, the last to be gone,
stolen from the ones who hung on to it.

To be the last in line, the ones that live on,
silhouette of a dream, treasured by the ones
.. who hung on to it.

Almost a breakdown of our love affair,
the stiletto cuts quick, like a whip through the air.
Long distance winners .. where we survive the flight,
not one of us runs .. from the firelight.

I would love to believe .. I believe what you say.
In the drama of the moment, oh, there’s no easy way.
No one ever leaves. Every one stays .. close till the fire .. fades.

To be the last to leave; what caused the fearsome ..
divorce in the night, there was no competition.
To survive do it right. You believe in the five.
To survive the distance, everyone fights.
Everyone fights .. and the fireflies.

At the risk of my feelings .. dreamers in the night.
Some call it our nightmare, and my five fireflies.
Like a sailing ship, not one of us runs.
Everyone stays .. and the fire never fades……..

  11. I always liked “Sara, you’re poet in my heart. Never change, never stop. But now it’s gone. It doesn’t matter what for. When you build your house, call me home.”
