From track to track, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros’ debut album “Up From Below” jumps styles and instruments so fast it’s hard to remember this is all from one record. Much of the music is odd, falling somewhere between experimental indie and experimental folk, with an emphasis on storytelling over hooks. Many times, it sounds like a lot of musicians playing together. And it is—the band has eleven members, each adding a small piece to the overall picture painted on this album. This is one of those records that is hard to write about, and probably would be even harder to read about, so listen and understand . . .

Agreed, such a great album yet so hard to describe in words. Just saw them on their UK tour. Nothing short of brilliant.
