Well, the book was cancelled because the writer went on to other projects. Then they did those miserably despressing one-shots. But I've heard he'll return and they'll relaunch.

God I miss the Young Avengers. They used to be just, well, fun, and refreshing to see teen superheroes actually acting like teenagers, instead of either kids or grownups pretending to talk like teenagers. Particularly Wiccan and Hulkling. They need a decent writer back on them.

i'm not going to argue w/ the notion that both Universes could stand to lighten up a bit (DP: Merc w/ a Mouth is one of my faves, too), but i'd point you to one specific issue to put some of Dark Reign into perspective. i initially thought the same thing you did; how was anyone supposed to swallow the fact that the president and the world (Marvel version, of course) would let Norman take over SHIELD and essentially world security? i believe it was Hulk, right after Red Hulk was introduced. You see the pres grilling Ozzie on Air Force One when the Doc Sampson freaks out (Ozzie slipped him something) and Ozzie puts him down. Then the Green Lantern appeaars (actually a Thunderbolt in disguise) and Ozzie again saves the day, twice in the span of minutes. AF1 goes down, and Ozzie further positions himself as the new face of heroism. i thought that at least gave a meaningful reason for his takeover of SHIELD/transformation to HAMMER.

Regardless, DR ends in a couple of months, so whether you loved it or hated it, it will be gone. They've gone purposefully tight-lipped on what the next "all universe tie-in" will be, but i imagine we'll be stuck w/ the format for the foreseeable future as it's an easy way to get fans to spend more money. Shitty? Yes, but what can you do?
