THE TOP 40 T.V. THEMES EVER–#21: WONDER WOMAN

Posted on August 15th, 2009 by ekko

Most of us just watched this to see Linda Carter run around in that outfit, but the lyrics to this theme are sooooo ’80s. “In your satin tights/Fighting for your rights/And the old red white and blue!” Women’s Lib is really just an excuse to wear satin and run like a girl (see below). And who performed it? The New World Symphony. Can’t make this stuff up.

And no post on Wonder Woman would be complete without the spin transformation . . .

OOOH!  WE’RE ABOUT TO HIT THE TOP 20!  I CAN’T WAIT!

THE TOP 40 T.V. THEMES EVER–#22: ALL IN THE FAMILY

I’ll never forget the Simpsons’ satire of this song . . .

Can you guess which one will #1????

Greatest. Show. Ever.

Can’t seem to find a good version of the theme though.

THE TOP 40 T.V. THEMES EVER–#24: THE ODD COUPLE

The opener posed the ultimate question: Can two divorced men share an apartment without driving each other crazy? The actual song was pretty similar to Get Smart: Bouncy and boppy. But it was written by . . . Neal “Batman” Hefti! The genius of the 1:30 song.

I can’t tell you how many hours my friends and I fought over the lyrics to the second verse of theme. It goes, “Hangin’ in the chow line,” F.Y.I. Lenny, you still owe me a Coke. Another thing about this song that was cool was how at the end of the show they did the last two verses. I don’t know of any other show that did that. Ever.

The show that launched more amazingly funny songs than other song in history, including Monty Python and The Muppets combined. Yeah, it’s just an instrumental, but even the music is funny!

Spread it Out-Masta Ace.

The show, and the theme, are basically The Aadams Family for dummies.

THE TOP 40 T.V. THEMES EVER–#28: CHEERS

The actual song “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” is kinda feh.  It’s overly sentimental, kinda silly, but it’s catchy as hell.  And the fact that it was covered by The Wedding Present gives it a certain legitimacy, dunnit?

Cheers Theme-Wedding Present.

THE TOP 40 T.V. THEMES EVER–#29: ONE DAY AT A TIME

“Walk on your feet, somewhere there’s music playin’!” This song was really pretty preachy, and this is an example of a theme that really has nothing to do with the show itself. I mean, the theme almost sounds like gospel but the show was as white as white could be, even with Mackenzie Phillips (who sang on the theme). For you youngsters, Mac was the daughter of one of the Mamas and the Papas, one of the 1960s druggiest bands, and was the foul-mouthed little girl responsible for this clip from American Graffitti:

I Was a Dirty Bird.

THE TOP 40 T.V. THEMES EVER–#30: MARY TYLER MOORE

You probably don’t know that it was a Sonny “I Fought The Law” Curtis tune, didja? Joan Jett did a great (non-indie) cover of this one-minute merry-go-round of a song, as did many others, but here’s the hands-down best one, by the great Husker Du:
