I can't respect any top list that includes All-Star Batman and Robin. Frankly, it's crap, and enjoyable only because you can laugh at how bad and stupid it is. The fact that that the one, true iconic portrayal of Batman is such a betrayal of the character just adds insult to injury.

i refuse to believe that someone can seriously take frank miller's all star and put it anywhere near this list. unless the title of this list was something including the words "depraved" or "gynophobic". do you hate superheroes? thats what frank miller thinks of them. to laud this comic as anything more than trite, spiteful, and shallow garbage is an affront to everything else on this list that actually has merits.

Well, speaking for myself I mostly read capes and tights--and Marvel/DC do own, collectively, nearly 80% of the market. So the list is inevitably going to slant their way. But I and the other folks that participated in picking books for the list did pick many indie titles, including Umbrella Academy, Wormwood, Walking Dead, and Scott Pilgrim.

In fact, if you read all 7 parts of the series, you'll find 34 Marvel/DC and 13 indie books. That means indie books represent far greater vote-getters than they actually sell in terms of market percentage.

(Your critique focused on Superhero books but you yourself mentioned "Top Ten" so I think you were more upset about indie than superbook.)

Okay, so I missed where you listed Y: The last man and deservedly feel like a cretin.

But seriously check out those other books.

It seems your "best of" recap is overwhelmingly Marvel-DC centric. I think some of the books you've mentioned are pretty excellent (Bendis' Daredevil for example) but you're really missing some excellent and groundbreaking comics: Y: the last man, Walking Dead, Fables, DMZ, Top Ten, Criminal, to name a few. I'll always have a love for superhero comics, but I think that the genre really isn't defining the "best of" this decade.
